The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium is extending its commitment to year-round content with its new “Breast Cancer Translated” podcast. The first episode was published late last month. The intention is to publish monthly.

“We are committed to providing the latest in breast cancer information and education throughout the year,” said SABCS Program Director Kate Lathrop, MD. “Dedicated researchers and clinicians are working daily to advance the latest treatments and therapies in breast cancer and pre-cancerous breast disease. It is information that should be shared year-round. It is too important not to.”

The topic of the inaugural “Breast Cancer Translated” podcast is the Carolina Breast Cancer Study (CBCS). Dr. Lathrop interviews Melissa Troester, PhD of the Gillings School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Together they review the background of the CBCS, the translational science that developed as a result, how the findings can impact public health policy and the care of African American women with breast cancer, with the goal to help bridge this gap in breast cancer-related mortality.

“In the post-COVID era we felt it was extremely important to give our audience easy ways to stay up to date with the events and advancements in breast cancer research and treatment,” said SABCS Co-sponsor Virginia Kaklamani, MD, DSc. “The mission of SABCS is to help cure breast cancer and this podcast is another tool that we can use to help us spread knowledge and hopefully lead to further advancements in the treatment of this disease.”
