After a year’s worth of virtual meetings, the 44th San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium is coming back this year as a hybrid event combining virtual and in-person programming Dec. 7-10 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
In-person attendance will be limited because of the COVID-19 virus restrictions. Registration to attend in-person will use CDC and City of San Antonio guidelines.
“The goal is to make the experience equally riveting for both groups,” Director of Symposia Sharon Hill said. “By reducing the barrier to entry, hybrid events provide the opportunity for even more people to attend and interact.”
Hill said attendees who cannot attend because of travel costs or for other reasons will always have the option to attend virtually moving forward. Last year’s symposium was entirely virtual, and more than 9,000 people registered for the event.
“The past year has been nothing short of unpredictable, but we have all learned a lot from this experience,” she said. “One of the most important lessons that we learned is to be prepared.”
The planning committee has been busy working on the program and the amount of content has allowed #SABCS21 to expand to five special sessions, two debates instead of one, and a molecular tumor board. There will also be the usual general sessions, plenary and award lectures, mini-symposia, spotlight poster sessions, forums, case discussions, posters, year in review and the popular “What to Do on Monday Morning” panel discussion session.
People can register for either virtual or in-person attendance here. In-person attendees will have access to all the virtual content as well. Hotel registration is available here. Early-registration discounts are available through Oct. 31. Patient advocates may register for free.
“We have had a nice response since we opened registration,” Hill said. “Space is limited this year so attendees wanting to attend in person should register early.”
