The Symposium must go on

Co-Director Dr. Virginia Kaklamani said there was never a question about whether or not #SABCS20 would happen.

Canceling or postponing the 43rd annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium was never an option according to SABCS Co-Director Virginia Kaklamani, MD, DSc.

“We could never imagine NOT having SABCS,” Dr. Kaklamani said. “This is the most important breast cancer meeting in the world.”

Some may have been holding out hope for a live symposium with the conference not happening until December. But the covid-19 infection numbers kept climbing and travel restrictions became tougher. So, in July the Executive Committee of #SABCS20 announced the event would be held virtually.

While there will be some pre-recorded, on-demand presentations, much of the Symposium will be live and interactive. There will be spotlights, debates, posters, lectures, educational sessions, and networking opportunities.

“The virtual meeting will be similar to the live meeting,” Dr. Kaklamani said. “We will have live Q&A sessions along with all the elements our attendees have gotten to love about SABCS.”

Attendees have been eagerly sharing on Twitter the presentations and abstracts they are looking forward to. Dr. Kaklamani said she expects the use of chemotherapy and endocrine therapy in the early-stage setting to be one of the most talked-about topics at #SABCS20.

Registration is still open through the first day of #SABCS20, Dec. 8. The Symposium runs through Dec. 11. For more information or to register, visit sabcs.org.
