Nicholas Navin, PhD and Ingrid Mayer, MD, MCSI will present the plenary lectures at the 2018 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium^® (SABCS^®), Dec. 4-8.

Navin of the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, will present “Breast Tumor Evolution and Intratumor Heterogeneity — Insights from Single Cell Genomics.” Mayer of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee will present “Neoadjuvant Endocrine Therapy: The Times They Are A-Changing.”

“We offer these plenary lectures and speakers to ensure our attendees each year have an opportunity to hear presentations on topics of pressing interest,” said SABCS Co-Director, Virginia Kaklamani, MD, professor of medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, UT Health San Antonio.

Navin’s presentation will focus on single-cell sequencing methods to help understand breast cancer evolution and how that understanding applies to early-stage and more invasive cancers. He will also speak of his work on the Human Breast Cell Atlas. Navin’s research focuses on the genomic evolution of cancer cells and developing new methods of sequencing.

Mayer’s presentation will focus on the latest research surrounding endocrine therapy and effectiveness when compared with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Her research focuses on targeted therapies in breast cancer; biomarker prediction of treatment response; and identifying and overcoming endocrine therapy resistance in certain cancers.

Each lecture will precede that day’s General Session. Navin’s lecture will be at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 in Hall 3. Mayer’s will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6 in Hall 3.
